It’s how most of the top tier bowlers of today release the ball without grabbing it at the bottom. It’s the method of uncoiling the ball onto the lane instead of lifting up on the ball. Lifting is when you are behind the ball or on the side of the ball as it passes your ankle (old school).
This delivery forces you to lift the fingers from the back through the front of the ball to make it roll. This makes the ball read the front part of the lanes, today you want the ball to read the end of the pattern.
So the Modern Release is like playing with a yo-yo. You don't throw a yo-yo outwards from your hand you coil and cup it in your hand and just flip it out with the momentum of your arm and wrist.
This helps to keep the palm on the inside of the ball until release. Your elbow straightens out towards your mark and then your hand and wrist uncoil (flip) through and toward your intended target.
As they would say, easier said than done. It has taken me 8 months to become comfortable and not think about what I’m trying to do while bowling.
